Description
The snow was compact under Sora’s back, his gray coat with red lining fanned out under a body that always ran warm. The sky was a deep misted blue, the snow muffling any sound, any thoughts. Sora wasn’t used to snow, wasn’t used to having to sit still, but he liked it. There was no obligation, no anxieties he needed to work through, but they’d come anyway. They’d crawled under his bedroom door on the gummi ship and pulled at his pillow until it had fallen apart, rotten cloth and molded feathers. The window had been frosted over, Sora wanting to lean out of it, but not wake anyone. The world was asleep, just like Roxas. Maybe the whole universe was asleep. So he’d gently taken his worries by the hand even though they insisted on smashing the light bulb and rusting handles. He put his coat on, muffling the sound of his heart trying to go a mile a minute, trying to catch up to something just out of his reach. He’d made a lap around the ship, snow crunching, glitter and cold giving easily under his boots.
Prose
Icarus had fallen in love with Apollo the way stars form in the sky.A collection of exhales and moments of dusted tears fell in on itself, a tightness collected in his chest. They were exacerbated by heat and pressure, the god’s presence and a desire to please him. Then, stars emerge in a space where nothingness used to preside, a hollow space underneath his fourth rib. Both were glittering and brilliant, doomed to die all too quickly.
Mood Setting
Gansey woke up in the middle of the night again. He’d started blacking out, typically when it rained heavily, as if his consciousness was experiencing joint pains. His throat would feel as if he’d just finished vomiting, yet there was no bitter taste in his mouth. It burned in a way that water couldn’t put out, something sticking like sinew to bone against his Adam’s apple. He scrubbed his face with his hands, unmade bed sheets wound around his legs as if to hold him in place, keep him from escaping. He untangled himself and got up. He surveyed his room in the dark, ears straining, ringing to fill the silence, to devastate his subconscious with ideas of things that weren’t there.Cave diving theoretics in his own room.
Character Interaction
“What the heck are you guys doing?” Hayner asked, Roxas poised over Pence's mouth. There was a flicker there that he knew Hayner hadn’t been able to control, but it hurt to recognize all the same. He’d been left alone with Pence and now had him pinned to the floor, all sharp edges and unsaid threats.“Turning Pence into human goo,” Roxas explained with a delighted purr, the noise rumbling in his chest. He kissed Pence’s nose again, showing Hayner he wasn’t doing anything that would warrant his somewhat irrational worry.“It’s working,” Pence warned as he turned to Hayner, the flush of his face vanishing down his neck and into his bandana.“Don’t turn our friends into goo,” Hayner scolded, closing the door behind himself and sitting on the edge of his bed. Roxas uncoiled himself from Pence, sitting back on his haunches again as Pence sat up.“But I bet human goo would taste really good.” Roxas put his chin on the edge of the bed, Hayner throwing his leg up onto the bed and holding his ankle to keep it from slipping.“What are you, an old man? Can’t be bothered to chew us?” Hayner taunted.“I’m not even a year old yet—so if anyone here is old, it’s you.” Roxas shot back, staring at Hayner’s knuckles, now wanting to nip and tease at him as much as he’d done to Pence.“Wait—”“You’re kidding right?”“No. I thought I told you tha—wait.” Roxas pulled his chin off of the edge of the bed. “No, I didn’t. Sorry, that memory is still a bit hazy. Olette had asked if I was…what was it like sixteen or seventeen when we first met? I didn’t realize she was asking in years. So I thought I told you.”Hayner and Pence quietly looked at one another. Roxas still wasn’t privy to the silent exchange, but he could feel their auras twine and vibrate when they touched the other. They both scrambled for the door, both calling for Olette as if the world would end if she didn’t answer them.“Olette! Olette, we have a baby Visitor!”“Olette he’s totally messing with us! Tell Roxas to stop messing with us!”“What—what? What’s wrong?” Olette was dragged back into Hayner’s bedroom, Hayner tugging her along by one wrist and Pence the other. Hayner gestured to Roxas as Pence shut the door.“Well, go on, tell her your lies,” Hayner dramatically accused.
Take a Heart, Leave a Heart (chapter 23)
Script
RIKU:
…I just can’t help but wonder if I’m still me.TERRA:
In what way?RIKU:
In any way.
I know I’ve changed, but how much of that was growth and how much of that was taken from me?
I wish I knew so I could define it and understand it.
I can’t go around blaming Ansem for every bad feeling that I have for the rest of my life—it’s not realistic.TERRA:
Well, acknowledging what happened and recognizing you can’t blame everything on the past is helpful.
But, as much as we hate it, our pasts and our choices do define who we are and how we move forward.
They drive us to act the way we do now.RIKU:
I hate that.
I hate that I have to be defined by childhood mistakes and the awful people in my life. I hate that whenever I feel like this I compare myself to them and wonder if I’m just as bad.TERRA:
…I know.
But you're not. Evil people don’t go around worrying or not if they’re hurting others.RIKU:
Do evil people start off evil? Do they consciously make that decision to be awful one day?TERRA:
Well, anyone can probably do that. But I don’t think they’d try to keep themselves in check if that was their goal.RIKU:
I guess…that’s true.[TERRA’s sprite will give a “❗” and finally turn to ROXAS and XION, as if just now noticing them.]TERRA:
…And I don’t think awful people would have their friends come check up on them.RIKU:
I—TERRA:
Talk to them—share how you're feeling.RIKU:
Do you have to do that with Aqua and Ven…?TERRA:
Yeah, all the time.
Everyone can do bad things, but it’s an active choice to be a good person and apologize despite those things you’ve done.RIKU:
…Thank you. I really appreciate our talks.TERRA:
Any time.
